Nissan has finally unveiled its new Z Proto, a concept vehicle that effectively anticipates the long-awaited replacement for the 370Z.
The Japanese firm says the new Z Proto indicates its “intention to launch a new generation of the legendary Z sports car,” which previous reports suggested will end up wearing the 400Z badge.
Although Nissan confirmed that the concept car is inspired by a V6 biturbo engine mated with a six-speed manual gearbox (and later confirmed that the production model would also be available with the option of an automatic transmission), it did not hint at anything. horsepower or torque figures, saying only the newcomer “packs a punch.”
The concept measures 4,382mm from nose to tail, which is 132mm longer than the current 370Z and just three millimeters longer than the Toyota GR Supra. The show car is 1850mm wide and 1310mm high. It was developed by the Nissan design team in Japan, with the style “communicating respect for the original model.”
In official images, the concept sports a bright yellow pearl paint, which Nissan describes as a “tribute” to a popular paint scheme used on both the first generation Z (S30) and 300ZX (Z32), along with a black roof.
Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s chief designer, said his team “conducted countless studies and sketches as we investigated each generation and what made them a success.”

Inside, Nissan says the Z Proto’s cabin “perfectly blends modern technology with classic Z touches.” There’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (complete with a red-line shift point at the twelve o’clock position), a deep-dish steering wheel, and lots of yellow accents.
Hiroshi Tamura, Z Proto’s Chief Product Specialist, said “Z has always been a strong dynamic player.”
“Z is a balance of power and agility. It is a vehicle that creates a connection with the driver not only physically, but emotionally, and responds to the driver’s impulses.”
