Ian Wright has praised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for not turning his back on Arsenal when the club needed him most.
The Gabonese striker has just signed a new three-year contract in the Emirates after a long period of negotiation.
The forward had entered the last 12 months of his last contract and there was great uncertainty surrounding his future.
Arsenal were confident he would stay and the forward’s form in front of goal improved even more.
The fans didn’t know what was going on behind the scenes and, as he kept scoring the goals, they feared the worst.
The media reported interest in the forward from players such as Barcelona and Inter Milan. Those rumors didn’t help.
However, the Gunners managed to get him into a new deal for the next three years and used a live video from Instagram to announce it.
He was joined live by several players and club legend Ian Wright. Wright was so happy that he signed on and thanked him for not leaving ship at a time like this.
“I love you man,” Wright was quoted as saying by the Independent. “Can I say, because there are so many people [watching] And I’m sure there are a lot of people requesting you, man, but let me tell you: to sign for us when we need you the most, when we’ve seen legends leave us when we need them, you’re legendary status.
