Suzanne Daniels, a former senior executive at Eskom and a key witness in the state’s capture investigation, has testified that Salim Essa offered her an 800 million rand bribe in 2017.

Daniels testified Tuesday before the investigation, which since August 2018 has been hearing evidence of alleged corruption and fraud at state-owned companies.

As Fin24 previously reported, Daniels began his evidence by answering questions about a now-notorious email address that was used to send directives to leaders of state-owned companies and share confidential information. Although he maintained that he always understood that the address belonged to the then general director of the Public Companies Department, Richard Seleke, the commission’s test leader, Pule Seleka SC, told him that the address was indeed used by Essa.
