The 22 teams will begin stage 16 of the Tour de France after riders and staff members tested negative for Covid-19, organizers and the UCI that governs the sport said Tuesday.

French health authorities and organizers Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) had said that if two members of a team, cyclists or staff, tested positive for the new coronavirus, the entire team would be excluded from the race.

“The screening campaign that has taken place over the last 48 hours is … the fourth since the start of the event.

“Its objective is to guarantee the health of the race for the runners and personnel accredited against the new coronavirus,” the UCI and owner of the Tour Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) said in a statement.

“Overall, each of the 785 tests performed was negative.

“The organizers of the Tour de France and the UCI want to thank all the teams for their collaboration and for the vigilance they have shown and will continue to appear until the finish line in Paris.”

Four teams had a staff member test positive in the previous round of testing last week, but the organizers reset the day counter for the second round.
