JOHANNESBURG – Amy’Leigh De Jager’s family said they were relieved that the alleged mastermind of the six-year-old kidnapping and a co-defendant intend to plead guilty.
Tharina Human’s attorney said her client reached a plea and sentencing agreement with the state, which will be confirmed at the next court appearance in Palm Ridge on Thursday.
Human is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping near her school in Vanderbijlpark last year, which resulted in the girl’s disappearance for 19 hours before she was left by a road.
His attorney David Mey said his client reached an agreement with the state. However, her co-defendant Laetitia Nel has also indicated that she too wants to plead guilty to some of the charges.
However, Nel did not agree with the arrangement that Human reached an agreement with the State regarding the sentence and will now go to another court in Pretoria.
Mey said Human was sorry: “Most of the case is very simple and we are facing a period of direct incarceration. My client is very sorry for what happened, I can confirm that “.
The other two defendants are still considering their options if they too want to plead guilty.
