Jacques Nienaber is delighted with the form of the Europe based Boks and has revealed how Super Rugby Aotearoa and Super Rugby AU have given him a glimpse of what the All Blacks and Wallabies will bring to the Rugby Championship.

In his column of number 44 of Gazelle magazine, the Springbok coach writes about South Africa’s preparation for the Rugby Championship, the form of the foreign Boks and the return to full contact training on the home front.

‘Hello rugby friends, I trust you are doing well and staying safe during this challenging time. Let me first of all thank all essential and health workers who have worked heroically and tirelessly in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. ”

‘We appreciate your efforts and we are immensely proud of you, remember we are #StrongerTogether!

“At the time of writing, our franchise teams were allowed to return to non-contact training and the next step in resuming competitions will be full contact training.

Meanwhile, it was great to see the full-blown Super Rugby Aotearoa action between the five New Zealand teams, where the Crusaders once again showed their dominance despite some great competition from fellow Kiwi rivals.

“The Australian version was equally good to watch, not only to see some rugby competitions live, but it also provided us with valuable information on what these two countries have to offer from a national and international competition perspective.

From our point of view, the Springbok coaching staff has obviously taken a more than keen eye on the action in both countries as we plan for the rest of the season.

In addition, we were delighted to see several of our current Springboks, as well as a good number of players that we have assigned to a larger training group, having returned to action in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. While those based in France will also be back in action shortly.

‘So, while we look forward to hearing our plans for the rest of the year here in South Africa very soon, the Springbok coaching staff continues with our planning and logistical preparations on various fronts.

COLUMN: Boks is faced with a delicate balancing act.

Fortunately, virtual meetings today make it easy and convenient to gather a large group of players online at regular intervals where training, medical and conditioning personnel can interact with them to discuss various important aspects of our Springbok preparations, such as analysis, training and recovery. and protocols, nutritional requirements, etc.

At the local level, despite being out of action since mid-March, I think the players have done a very good job when you look at the dedication and value of sticking to their individual training schedules during the lockout.

“ As coaches at Bok, we are as eager as they are to get back into action, which we hope will happen soon, and once our franchises are back in competitive action (obviously considering government regulations), hopefully we’ll be fit to resume some form of test action in green and gold.

That’s all from me, please do your part to make sure we stop the spread of the virus and remember to practice social distancing.

‘Until next time, take care of yourself and stay safe out there.’
