Handre Pollard to miss the Rugby Championship after an anterior cruciate ligament injury

Rugby World Cup Winner Handre pollard he will miss this year’s rescheduled Rugby Championship after his team, Montpellier, ruled him out on Monday for “many months” with a torn knee ligament.

Pollard, 26, of South Africa, who lifted the Webb Ellis Trophy last November, suffered a serious knee injury in last weekend’s Top 14 loss in Montpellier.

“Following Friday night’s game against Racing 92 at La Paris Defense Arena, the club confirmed Handre Pollard’s absence for many months after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament,” the French team said.

“We wish him a speedy recovery,” they added.

The Springboks are ready to begin the defense of the Rugby Championship, moved since this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, by facing Argentina on November 7 and the tournament ends on December 12.

Elton Jantjies of the Lions and Damian Willemse of the Stormers were Pollard’s backups at last year’s World Cup in Japan.

Lock RG Snyman will be out of the game this fall after also sustaining ACL damage on his Munster debut in August.

His second-line teammate Lood de Jager could be out for up to six months due to a shoulder injury he suffered at the club with Sale and Toulon’s Eben Etzebeth has played just 19 minutes this season with a rib problem.
