JOHANNESBURG – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said international flights would return soon, but warned that health and safety protocols must be adhered to.

Mbalula spoke after inspecting compliance with protocols at OR Tambo International and King Shaka airports over the weekend.

Flights were stopped when borders were closed in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Only local routes have reopened after the government eased blocking restrictions.

Mbalula has warned that non-compliance will not be tolerated.

“I received a complaint that some of the airlines are not complying with the regulations on board … there is no application of masks and there is no cleaning, so we want to deal with that.”
