- The children noticed a stench coming from a hut and alerted a community leader.
- The decomposed body of Boipelo Sesele was found inside a closet in a shack.
- The owner of the hut came to the scene and was allegedly killed by angry community members.
The body of Boipelo Sesele, a nine-year-old girl from the Free State, who disappeared while playing with other children on September 1, has been found.
Free State Police spokesman Brig. Sam Makhele said Sesele’s body was found not far from his home Saturday afternoon.
“It is alleged that the children were playing in the street when they sensed a bad smell in a hut not far from Boipelo’s house and alerted the community members who were helping to search for the child.
“They went to the hut and found it locked, forced entry and opened the closet where the smell came from and found Sesele’s body, then alerted the police.”

Makhele said that while he was at the scene, it is alleged that the owner of the hut appeared and was attacked by the community.
“The police tried to intervene, but they were also attacked, they finally managed to get him out of this volatile situation, but then he was pronounced dead by the emergency medical service,” Makhele said.
Makhele said that the situation in the area was still tense, but that police were monitoring it.
The discovery came amid a massive 12-day search by concerned community members.
A member of the search party and community leader, who identified himself as Mr. Thebe, told SABC News that a boy approached him around 4 p.m. Saturday and reported a bad odor coming out of the hut in the one that found Sesele’s body.
“I opened the door, the shack was a mess, everything was dirty there. Then I went to check the wardrobe. As I was heading to the wardrobe, her hand was showing from outside. She was sitting inside the wardrobe. It was broken. She broke me. but I thank God that we have finally found closure. “
Sesele was reported missing by her mother Lynette.
She was last seen playing with friends on the street, not far from her home, on September 1, 2020 at approximately 1:00 p.m.
At the time, Lynette claimed that she had gone to visit a friend in Phomolong, leaving Boipelo playing with friends.
Makhele said that upon her return, Lynette discovered that Boipelo had disappeared.
He went to ask his friends who told him that Boipelo had been talking to a tall man wearing blue overalls and they both went to the store and never came back, Makhele said previously.
