- They were arrested Thursday while protesting at a store in Stellenbosch.
- They were initially expected to appear in court on Monday.
The sixteen members of the Economic Freedom Fighters who were arrested during the Clicks protests this week will no longer submit their request for bail on Monday, after receiving an urgent request.
According to EFF Western Cape President Melikhaya Xego, they had received an urgent notice from the Western Cape Superior Court on Friday, saying that the 16 members who were arrested during a Clicks protest at the Eikestad Mall in Stellenbosch were due to appear on Saturday.
“We received an urgent request, saying that we should appear today,” Xego told News24 on Saturday.
The group was arrested Thursday during four days of protests over a TRESemmé ad that showed a black woman’s hair as “dry and damaged” and a white woman’s hair as “normal.”
They were arrested for allegedly contravening a court order and were expected to appear for the first time in the Stellenbosch Court of First Instance.
