Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has reacted to Cricket South Africa’s current governance issues that have rocked the organization in recent months.

In addition to the coronavirus and Black Lives Matter concerns, CSA has been going through a public administrative crisis that has dominated the headlines.

A month of chaos CSA:

  • August 17 CSA President Chris Nenzani resigns
  • August 17 CSA interim CEO Jacques Faul resigns
  • August 18th – Beresford Williams Named Acting President
  • August 18-22 Proteas men’s team gathers for a cultural camp in Skukuza

  • August 19 Kugandrie Govender was appointed Executive Director of Action, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
  • August 27th – CSA officially fired suspended CEO Thabang Moroe after a disciplinary process that lasted more than nine months.
  • August 28 – CSA appoints Dumisa Ntsebeza as Ombudsman for Transformation

  • September, 10th – Sascoc instituted an intervention in Cricket South Africa

On Thursday, SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) asked the CSA board to “step aside” while its task force investigates the organization.

On Friday morning, CSA rejected Sascoc’s instruction to sideline the board and executive leadership and is seeking legal advice on how to move forward.

Pietersen, who hails from Pietermaritzburg, took to social media to express his frustration over the CSA crisis.

OMG! What is happening to cricket in South Africa is catastrophic“said Pietersen, who played 104 Tests, 136 ODI and 37 T20 for England.

I am so sorry for the many amazing people who work in that organization and for all the players who are suffering at the hands of this disaster! Sport unites SA! This horror show is ending cricket!

Last week, 30 current Proteas – men and women – expressed concern and condemned the chaos that is engulfing CSA.

“High standards are expected of us as players. To be successful as Proteas teams, we know that we must put aside personal differences and work together. We require the same from our administrators,” the players’ statement read.

“Politics and self-interest seem to trump the imperatives of cricket and good governance. Decisions must be made that are in the best interests of cricket …”

Since then, the Proteas team has returned from a cultural camp in Skukuza following former national players who came forward and revealed mistreatment and racial inequality within the Proteas organization.
