Sundowns Mamelodi they’re targeting a historic domestic treble this Saturday when they face off Bloemfontein Celtic at Nedbank Cup end in Orlando Stadium.

The newly crowned 2019/2020 Absa Premiership Champions will aim to add the Nedbank Cup trophy to their triumph at Telkom Knockout earlier this season.

It would be a historic achievement for coach Pitso Mosimane’s team as the club’s first national treble.

In an achievement only seen in big sports teams, Mosimane has already led Masandawana into an unprecedented period of dominance after winning their third consecutive league title.

For Mosimane personally, adding the Nedbank Cup to his trophy collection would further cement his argument as the best coach in Absa Premiership history.

The 56-year-old was willing to downplay the expectations and importance of Saturday’s final.

“The treble isn’t there until you’ve won the game,” Mosimane said. “First, we got a cup (Telkom Knockout win), second, the league was never in our favor, it was never in our hands, except for the last 20 minutes or so.

“The worst thing you can do is think you have won the treble before you have won it and everyone has the right to win the Nedbank Cup.

Bloemfontein Celtic are very underprivileged heading into this weekend’s final and their final trophy will come in 2012 at Telkom Knockout. However, this victory, in what is perhaps a sign, came against the Sundowns in a replay of Saturday’s game.

“If you know the history between the two clubs in glasses, the historical reference is not good for us,” Mosimane added. “But you never know since coach Maduka was not the coach for years and neither was I, so the common denominator is only the two clubs.

Mosimane also insisted that his team would not underestimate a Bloemfontein Celtic team that has achieved impressive victories throughout the current campaign.

“You can say they need it more than we do in terms of winning the trophies, but football doesn’t work that way either. It’s about whoever wants it the most on the field that day.

“They’ve been winning and they’re one of the contributors to us winning the league title because they stopped Kaizer Chiefs. If they can stop a team as big as the Chiefs, that means they can stop us easily.

“It’s a cup final and we are here for it.

The start is at 20:00.
