The woman seen in a video clip pointing a gun at screaming EFF protesters Tuesday outside a Clicks store in Port Elizabeth made her first court appearance Thursday.
Diane Attwell, 52, arrived with a strong contingent of police officers present. Also with her was her attorney, defender Terry Price, and a man who introduced himself as her husband.
Members of the Public Order Police unit were seen at the court entrance, as well as inside the building, while an armored vehicle was parked next to the court building.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu, a spokeswoman for the Port Elizabeth police, said the police had met to “avoid any disruption.”

There were no signs of EFF members near the court.
Attwell was involved in a fight with members of the EFF during a protest in front of Clicks at the Walmer Shopping Mall.
She was captured on video drawing a gun and pointing it at EFF members during a shouting match near the mall lobby.
This, after party members yelled at her: “Damn bitch, go back to Europe!”
A person dressed in blue apparently tried to grab her arm, to which Attwell responded by drawing his weapon.

The EFF members reacted by shouting “shoot, shoot.” Then she turned and walked out with the security guards.
In court, the case was postponed until November 6 for further investigation.
Price told the court that he was succeeding defense attorney Alwyn Griebenow as Attwell’s attorney. He said Griebenow was at the hospital and had instructed him to be present in court and apologized for not being present.
Attwell’s 7.65 pistol was confiscated by police.
Attwell and her husband declined to comment, as did Price, referring inquiries to Griebenow.
Price, however, revealed that Attwell was a homemaker, while her husband was a businessman.
The protests came as Clicks fought a public backlash over an advertisement for a TRESemmé hair product, featured on the Clicks website, which was seen as ridiculing black hair.
