JOHANNESBURG – An independent investigation has been called for into the use of a military aircraft by the African National Congress (ANC) for its latest trip to Zimbabwe.
The party has been accused of abusing state resources after its delegation landed in Harare this week on a South African Air Force plane for a planned meeting with Zanu-PF.
A spokesman for the Defense Ministry is quoted as saying that the ANC meeting in the neighboring country “coincided” with Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s plans to travel there, so he brought his colleagues.
The Defense Department said that the use of state resources for party politics was not common and admitted that it had never happened before.
