The French forward is still linked to a departure but has underlined his desire to stay at the club
Antoine Griezmann has wondered why he is still linked to a departure from Barcelona by reiterating his desire to remain at the club.
The French international endured a disappointing debut campaign with Barça after arriving from Atlético de Madrid on a € 120 million transfer last year.
He scored 15 goals in all competitions, but was often played out of position and struggled to earn a regular spot in the team in the later stages of the season.
Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and the former Atlético club have been proposed to move for Griezmann, but the forward has no desire to leave Barcelona.
“Is my future at Barça? Yes. I don’t know why people invent destinations to see if one day they will be right,” he told the French media. M6.
“I’m very good there. I know I have the confidence of the club and the coach, so I’m fine. It has been a very difficult season for everyone but now we are starting over.”
Griezmann, under contract with Barça until the end of the 2023-24 campaign, scored with France on Tuesday to tie with Zinedine Zidane as the fifth top scorer in the nation’s history.
The 29-year-old has 31 goals for the world champions, leaving him only behind David Trezeguet, Olivier Giroud, Michel Platini and Thierry Henry, who scored 51 goals for Les Blues.
Upon being appointed Barcelona’s new coach, Koeman identified Griezmann as one of several players he considers key to moving forward and highlighted his desire to play against Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong in their preferred positions.
