Openserve continues its drive to migrate customers using copper-based ADSL Internet to fiber-based infrastructure while struggling with connectivity challenges caused by cable theft and speed limitations of copper infrastructure.
Initially, the deadline for migration was set for the end of August, but it was subsequently moved to the end of November, he said. The deadline was extended to ensure that both ISPs and end consumers have enough time to complete their migrations.
“Consumers currently using ADSL who are in an Openserve fiber area are encouraged to contact their Internet Service Provider (ISP) for more information and assistance before the end of November 2020.
“From the end of November 2020, we look forward to welcoming consumers to the fastest and most cutting-edge fiber technology. Openserve will stop supporting and maintaining all copper network infrastructure in areas that are already covered by our fiber network, ”says Althon Beukes, CEO of Openserve.
“We encourage consumers to contact their ISPs and see if their area is one of the many areas that we have already updated. We are working closely with our partner ISPs to ensure that no one is left without connectivity and has been migrated to our fiber infrastructure. “
Openserve has released a full list of affected areas here. The company said it will continue to support, maintain and provide broadband services in areas where it has yet to build an end-to-end fiber infrastructure.
