JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Bheki Cele said the actions of the officers on the day Nathaniel Julies was killed were unjustified and said he was pleased that Ipid had taken up the case.

The three officers linked to the murder of the 16-year-old from Eldorado Park will return to the pier Thursday morning.

Julies was killed a few feet from his home last month.

Police claimed the teenager was caught in the crossfire during the alleged gang violence, but the community said he was killed by police.

Cele said that the behavior of the police was indefensible.

“It was totally unnecessary and there’s not a shred of defensive input to that, nothing. I just don’t know what the officers went through. As the case continues, we’ll find out what happened.”

The agents face charges of murder, annulment of the purposes of justice, use of unauthorized ammunition and firing of firearms in public.
