Racing Point driver Sergio Pérez has announced his departure from the team after the current season. Pérez’s announcement comes as a big surprise, considering that the Mexican was pretty sure he would stay with the team next season. While the team has yet to announce a replacement, all signs point towards Sebastian Vettel.
Pérez joined Racing Point when it was called Force India in 2014. The Mexican created a habit of dragging his car from midfield to the podium multiple times. He was also instrumental in saving the team when it was on the brink of collapse in late 2018.
Despite having a contract until 2022, Pérez took to social media to announce his departure from the Silverstone team. In an emotional post, Pérez thanked his fans and the team. More importantly, the Mexican revealed that he does not have a “plan B” for next year.
“MEIt hurts a bit because I bet on the team in very hard moments; we managed to overcome obstacles and I am very proud to save the jobs of several of my colleagues “

“I will always be grateful for the opportunity Vijay Mallya gave me, who believed in me in 2014 and allowed me to continue my F1 career with Force India.”
Pérez thanked Lawrence Stroll, who is spearheading the transformation of Racing Point into Aston Martin in 2021.
“To the current management, led by Lawrence Stroll, I wish the best in the future, especially with the next Aston Martin project.”
“I don’t have a plan B. My intention is to keep running here, but that would depend on finding a project that motivates me to continue giving my 100 percent on each lap”
For a man who is trapped by the team through good times and bad, you can’t help but feel sorry for Pérez. However, it remains to be seen who announces the team for its 2021 driver lineup alongside Lance Stroll.
If the rumors have any value, there is a certain 4-time World Champion who has not yet decided his future plans.
