A Limpopo lawyer allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into a police holding cell.
A Limpopo lawyer was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly tried to pass drugs and a cell phone to a prisoner awaiting trial at the Mahwelereng Police Station, near Mokopane, Limpopo.
According to police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Piet Motshitshi Kekana, a lawyer attached to one of the local law firms in the area, reportedly arrived at the police station around 11:30, wishing to consult one of the inmates who were to appear. In the court.

Kekana appeared in Mokerong Magistrates Court charged with drug possession. He was released after a warning and his case was postponed until November 27 for further investigation.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the arrest.
“The vigilance and alertness of the policewoman on duty at the time the suspect attempted to smuggle drugs into our police cells is commendable and should be maintained in all detention centers,” Ledwaba said.
