“We were quite concerned, but we did not have an increase in the number of cases when we went from level 3 to level 2, which was really good news because we want to go back to normal activities, so we will have to go to level 1. “We need to maintain some measures around mixing, meetings, etc., but we have to start opening up more economic activities as we move forward. Everyone should be able to survive on their own without needing more help from the government, ”he said.
Mkhize cautioned that caution must be exercised to avoid another surge in infections.
“We are not out of the woods. We must always be careful because infections can increase again in the same way that is happening in Spain, the United States, Iran and Korea.
He thanked all the religious leaders who supported the fight against the pandemic.
“They have given us tremendous support in this fight. If we did not get this support and cooperation from imams in mosques, from churches, and from church leaders, synagogues and rabbis, the risks in religious gatherings would have been enormous. That they have been able to contain their numbers in the last six months because there were no big meetings, we have to applaud them, ”said Mkhize.
