Pelé sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo after exceeding 100 goals with Portugal

Brazilian legend Pelé has sent a well-deserved tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after the Juventus superstar surpassed 100 goals for Portugal.

Pelé, who won three World Cups and scored 77 goals for Brazil, congratulated the Portuguese forward as he continues to “reach new heights on his way.”

The 79-year-old soccer icon tweeted: “I thought we were going to celebrate 100 goals today.

“But it was actually 101! Congratulations @Cristiano, as you reach new heights on your journey.”

Gary Lineker, former star of Barcelona and Leicester City, also praised the “extraordinary” Ronaldo for achieving a “truly amazing achievement”.

The 59-year-old Match of the Day host posted on Twitter: “Congratulations to @Cristiano for scoring 100 goals for Portugal.

“A truly astonishing achievement from an extraordinary footballer. Well played.”

Manchester United also took to Twitter to pay tribute to Ronaldo, who enjoyed brilliant success at Old Trafford during his six years in the Premier League.

“Congratulations to @Cristiano for a century of international goals for @SelecaoPortugal,” the Red Devils tweeted.
