The utility said it had managed to get four generating units back into service and was able to prevent cargo shedding until this afternoon.

While many will be spared the deliberate outages this morning, tens of thousands of residents in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Free State are not so lucky.

Eskom said it would implement so-called “load reduction” in parts of these provinces to avoid network overload in high-density areas.
