As for the Arsenal squad, it is clear that there are some weaknesses and a few more players are still needed, but overall I would suggest that Mikel Arteta is getting very close to having two quality players per position.
It’s not about what our fans think is quality, but about Arteta himself, for example, he believes in David Luiz and they wouldn’t have offered him an extended contract if the Spaniard didn’t think Luiz was quality.
Like the comeon bonus code where no one would ignore something extra that is free, no one can be unhappy that certain Arsenal players are now giving more than they gave before and have not cost the club anything, Mustafi is an excellent example of that.
Let’s take a quick look at the Arsenal squad from goalkeeper to striker and I think you’ll agree that the squad is really starting to show some depth in talent.
In goal, we have Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martínez, I’m not sure there are many clubs with two goalkeepers like that.
On the left back we have Kieran Tierney who has a decent backing depending on who Arteta would field there, including Bukayo Saka, but it would be nice if another natural left back was signed.
On the right side we have Hector Bellerin, Cedric Soares and even Ainsley Maitland-Niles. In central defense there are new signings Gabriel, Saliba, Luiz, Mustafi, Holding, Mari, Chambers and Sokratis. Now some of them aren’t good enough, but I suggest there are at least four quality defenders there to fight for two center-back positions.
Midfield needs at least one new signing, hopefully it will be Thomas Partey, however the end of the season showed that Arteta makes the best of his options in this area and despite reservations about players like Xhaka and even Elneny and Willock. There are signs that the coach is building a solid midfield and with the return of Ceballos, there is creativity.
The attack is absolutely solid, Aubameyang is world class, Martinelli will be world class, hopefully Pepe will do well, especially with Willian there to guide him, Lacazette is still quality and Nelson and Nketiah are progressing perfectly.
As I said before we will probably need a couple more signings, a midfielder and a left-back would be welcome, possibly two midfielders, but I firmly believe that now we are very close to having a solid, balanced team with a depth that can and will challenge for the honors next season.
