  • The ANC has rated US President Donald Trump as the most “Divisive, misogynistic and disrespectful person” who once held the office of president.
  • This after TrumpFormer attorney Michael Cohen attributed the disparaging remarks made to him about former President Nelson Mandela.
  • Cohen alleged that Trump said Mandela had destroyed South Africa.

Following comments on former President Nelson Mandela that were attributed to Donald Trump, the ANC has called the president of the United States the most divisive, misogynistic and disrespectful person to ever hold office.

According to a book by Michael Cohen titled Unfair: a memoryTrump allegedly had a “bad opinion” of all blacks, the Washington Post reported.

These views included the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

Cohen, who previously served as Trump’s attorney, wrote that after Mandela’s death, Trump allegedly said that he did not believe that Mandela “was a real leader, not the type that he respected.”

Cohen reportedly further alleged that Trump had praised the apartheid-era regime in South Africa and said that Mandela “screwed up the whole country. Now he sucks. F — Mandela. He wasn’t a leader.”

Cohen is serving time in prison after admitting to various crimes, including tax evasion and making false statements to a financial institution and Congress.

In a statement Tuesday, the ANC through its national spokesperson Pule Mabe condemned the disparaging remarks attributed to Trump.

All the freedom-loving people in the world are horrified by these insults that come from a person who, in himself, is not a model of competent leadership.

“Trump is a divisive, misogynistic and disrespectful person who once served as president.”

Mabe added that Mandela was in stark contrast to Trump.

“A unifying and principled leader, President Mandela reached out to the world and sought to bring peace and a just society.

“President Mandela also believed in good trade and strong diplomatic relations. He forged a strong friendship with President Bill Clinton, interacted with political leaders from across the political spectrum, and never abandoned his principles for pragmatic short-term goals.”

The ANC further maintained that if Mandela had been alive during this time, he would have approached Trump to teach him to understand the complex challenges of the developing world and to show him the wisdom to lift the blockade against Cuba.

“I would have invited him to visit Gaza to appreciate the pain of the Palestinian people and would have recommended that he work with the international community to help find a lasting solution to the conflict in the Middle East.”

“President Mandela understood the value of international friendship between the countries of the world. The mark of a true leader is not how many enemies he creates, but how many friends he cultivates, even when there are strong differences of opinion.

“President Nelson Mandela is an international icon, a revered freedom fighter, and a great leader who will be remembered and celebrated for centuries to come,” added Mabe.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation also responded to comments attributed to Trump.

On Monday, the foundation said it did not believe that leaders who behaved the way Trump did were “in a position to offer authoritative comments on Madiba’s life and work,” News24 reported.
