JOHANNESBURG – Former Eskom board chair Zola Tsotsi says the Guptas threatened him with “slime,” and it was common knowledge that if you didn’t do what they wanted, you would be going against the president’s wishes.
Tsotsi appeared at the state capture commission on Tuesday, where he said he met the Guptas three times in Saxonwold or Sahara, at their request.
He said he first met them at the Jan. 8 dinner of the African National Congress, where Eskom had bought tickets to attend.
Tsotsi said on all three occasions that he met with the Guptas that they wanted a gas contract, that one of their employees be employed in the Eskom acquisition, and they told Tsotsi to do an investigation into an irregular situation. The new age contract ‘go’.
“They were close enough to the president to threaten people with ‘slime’, as they call it. They did the same to me at some point. “

In January, Tsotsi reiterated his claim to the commission that Tony Gupta told him that the controversial family had put him in his position and that they would remove him if they wanted to.
He resigned after being accused of interfering with the executive to avoid a vote of no confidence from his fellow board members.
But he would later claim that the Guptas wanted exclusivity to supply gas through Eskom units in the Western Cape, although other companies had already signed commitments with the utility.
Tsotsi said Tony Gupta told him that he would be removed from his post.
