  • EFF Eastern Cape President Yazini Tetyana said the party “enjoys irritating whites.”

Dramatic scenes unfolded at the Walmer Park shopping center in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday morning when a shopper pulled a firearm at EFF protesters during the second day of the Clicks shutdown protests across the country.

The shocking incident was filmed, apparently with a cell phone, in the lobby of the busy shopping center. The video has already been widely shared on social media platforms.

In the clip, four mall security guards in yellow vests can be seen trying to separate two women dressed in red EFF from the shopper.

A woman, believed to be a protester, can be heard yelling, “Go back to Europe. F —— p —-“.

Protesters can be seen following the client as the guards remove her from the center.

The woman stops suddenly, reaches into her jacket and pulls out a firearm, which is pointed at the protesters.

The EFF members can then be heard yelling, “Shoot! Shoot!”

All those involved in the altercation were arrested and taken to the Walmer Park Police Station, said police spokeswoman Capt.Sandra Janse van Rensburg.

At the police station, both parties refused to press criminal charges against each other, Janse van Rensburg said.

He said the 52-year-old woman, who pointed the firearm, was the rightful owner of the weapon.

EFF Eastern Cape President Yazini Tetyana said the party “enjoys irritating whites.”

‘We like that’

“That incident showed that white people are irritated by the EFF and we like that. Our members were there for Clicks, but that woman got irritated and yelled at our members.”

Tetyana added: “But what we didn’t like is the attitude of the police, who came to the scene and handcuffed our member without knowing all the details. They saw a fight between a white person and a black person, and concluded that our member started the Fight.

“It was only after our member pointed out that the woman drew a firearm first that she was also arrested. We know those attitudes. The irritation from the whites will not end there.”

When asked to comment on Tetyana’s allegations about the police, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said: “Both parties were taken to the police station.”

Janse van Rensburg added: “Walmer SAPS responded to a complaint at Clicks Walmer Park. Apparently, a 52-year-old woman was involved in an altercation with EFF supporters at the entrance to Clicks Walmer Park.

Subsequently, the police removed the people involved in the altercation and transferred them to Walmer SAPS. Upon arrival at the police station, all parties refused to press charges.

“No arrests were affected and no case is currently being investigated without whistleblowers,” he said.

The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Walmer Park Mall Center Manager Leonie Scheepers.

Mall security and police remain on high alert, while the Clicks store is closed until further notice, Scheepers said.

Meeting

Scheepers said the altercation began after the elderly woman began filming a gathering of people in EFF t-shirts outside of Clicks.

“The center’s security staff approached her and asked her to stop recording. She ignored this request and then confronted the person who appeared to be the leader of the group. [EFF]. An altercation ensued. During the altercation, the client drew a firearm and pointed it at the group. “

The incident comes as the health and cosmetics giant Clicks is fighting a massive public backlash over an advertisement for a hair product TRESemmé, which appeared on its website describing black hair as “dry and damaged” and “frizzy. and dull “, while white hair was described as” fine and flat “and” normal “.

Despite a public apology from Clicks CEO Vikesh Ramsunder for the “insensitive and offensive” announcement, the EFF issued a directive to all of its “ground forces” to “help” the Clicks shut down Monday through Friday.

On Tuesday, Ramsunder announced that Clicks would remove and remove all TRESemmé products from its shelves effective immediately and replace the gap with locally sourced hair care brands.

It revealed that, in addition, Clicks would collaborate with all providers to enforce their ethical code of conduct.

In addition to suspending all employees involved in the publication of the recent offensive advertisement, Clicks accepted the resignation of the responsible senior executive, the company said in a statement Tuesday.
