JOHANNESBURG – The president of the Federal Council of the Public Prosecutor, Helen Zille, says that anyone who sees former leader Mmusi Maimane as a victim of racism “is himself a racist.”
Zille has reiterated that a purge of black leaders and progressive members is not the reality in the party.
The district attorney wrapped up his virtual policy conference last weekend and got down to business on the issue of race.
The official opposition says its policies will not be based on race and is willing to pay the electoral price for it.
“I don’t know if this policy is a vote-winning policy, I don’t think South Africans don’t even vote that way,” said the party’s chief of policy, Gwen Ngwenya.
“I don’t think many have their main reason as politics, I would love it if that were the case, but I think politics are part of it, and I certainly don’t think that a policy determines how people vote.”

Zille says that if the prosecution adopted such policies, it could lead to looting of the state.
“If you just use race, you end up with Jacob Zuma, for example, saying that he was only applying for BBBEE when he was making sure his entire network got bids and contracts,” Zille said.

The former Western Cape Prime Minister says that implying that she expelled Maimane is unfair and racist towards him.
“Anyone who says they are some kind of victim is actually racist because they are denied the agency to make a decision,” he said.
Political analyst Ongama Mtimka says rejecting race can have serious consequences for the district attorney.
The policies will form the basis of the DA’s local government election campaign and will undoubtedly affect its internal leadership career.
