Two young children were raped in separate incidents.
Four boys, ages 10 to 13, were detained and taken to the Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Care Center after they allegedly raped a 4-year-old girl in Muldersdrift on Friday.
According to a police spokeswoman, Captain Mavela Masondo, the girl’s mother was braiding a customer’s hair when her nephew told her about the incident.

A rape case was opened for further investigation.
In another incident, police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl on Thursday night in Khutsong, near Carletonville, on Thursday.
Masondo said the girl’s mother left her two sons, ages 11 and 5, sleeping at her home at around 9:00 p.m. to visit her boyfriend.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect bent the corrugated iron and snatched the girl, whom he led into the bush and raped. She was found by police on Sunday after a lengthy search.”
Masondo said child neglect cases could be opened against the mothers of the victims, pending investigation.
Police are asking the community to report any guardians or parents suspected of neglecting children.
