Cape Town – The family of Shakeena Karriem, 26, who was shot in the head in an alleged gang-related shooting in Bonteheuwel, was in shock at her death on Sunday.
Her aunt, Gadija Safodien, said Karriem was sitting in her car on Bracken Street in the early hours of Sunday when a vehicle arrived and the occupants apparently asked her where to get beers. According to the family, the car was on the road again and the occupants shot a man in the street when Karriem was hit.
“She was sitting in her car and they shot her. We are very sad, she was a very happy person, ”Safodien said.
Police spokesman Noloyiso Rwexana said Bishop Lavis’ police were investigating a murder case.
“According to the information, the police attended the complaint at the home and were informed that a woman was shot and taken to the hospital where she died upon arrival. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and the motive has yet to be determined. “
No arrests have yet been made. Bonteheuwel Ward Councilor Angus McKenzie said: “Those in the vicinity are extremely shocked. Shooting incidents have turned into drive-by shootings in the early hours of the morning when there are fewer police (patrols). It is also very difficult to monitor vehicle shootings, as identifying shooters is extremely difficult. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the young woman’s family and friends at this time. “
Meanwhile, the Hawston family of the murdered Juanita Willemse said they could not understand how the father of one of their children could be allegedly responsible for her death.
Willemse’s body was found dumped on Cambridge Road near his home on Friday.
Willemse, a mother of three children ages 2, 4 and 11, was last seen by her family with the father of her youngest child.
Police spokesman Noloyiso Rwexana said a 20-year-old was arrested for murder and will appear in Hermanus Magistrates Court today.
“According to the information, the police went to the crime scene and upon arrival found the victim with a rope around his neck. The circumstances that led to this incident are under investigation, ”Rwexana said.
Willemse’s aunt, Elvera Mento, said her niece was kind and full of life.
“We are still reaching an agreement with the murder of Juanita. We do not understand how you can kill the mother of your child. Juanita was no longer dating her at the time of her murder.
“We will all go to court to demand justice. We are happy that the arrest was quick, but that he is behind bars will not bring our daughter back, ”Mento said.
