Retailers have already removed Liqui Fruit’s stock of red grape juice from their shelves following a glass particle scare.

Premier Foods issued a national recall of 330 ml cans of red grape after the company received reports of small glass shards in a single batch.

Shoprite said they were adhering to the recall instituted as a precaution by PepsiCo. “The affected batches of 330 ml cans of Liqui Fruit have already been removed from the shelves of the Shoprite Group supermarkets after receiving a recall notice from PepsiCo in sub-Saharan Africa on Friday. We urge customers to review recently purchased 330ml cans of Liqui Fruit Red Grape and return any recalled product to the store where they purchased it for a refund, ”Shoprite said.

Pick n Pay also confirmed that they have removed the affected products.

Acting Consumer Commissioner Thezi Mabuza said that while the commission had not received full notification in terms of safety recall guidelines, Pioneer Foods is still conducting an investigation.

“The information we have is that glass particles are found in the product and this represents a health risk for consumers. We urge consumers who purchased this product to stop using it immediately and return it to the retailer of purchase for a full refund. Upon receiving the official notice, the NCC will oversee the recall of this product, ”Mabuza said.

In a statement, Pioneer Foods said an investigation was underway, but as a precautionary measure, “we are conducting a product recall of a particular batch of 330ml cans of Red Grape Liqui Fruit.”

“This is a potential food safety problem, so if you have purchased any of the products, please do not consume it. All other Liqui Fruit product codes are not affected and do not need to be returned ”.

The barcode for a single unit in the affected lot is 6001240225592 and is printed on the side of the can. The best code before the date says “BB 01.04.2021 C TIME and BB 02.04.2021 C TIME”.
