An Eastern Cape woman was killed in a hail of bullets when a gunman opened fire inside the cargo office of the Madeira police station shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.

Terrified eyewitnesses ran for their lives when the shooting occurred.

Songezo Sanazo, a native of Lujecweni village in Ngqeleni, said he went to the police station to certify documents.

“I was busy certifying my documents when I heard some shots,” he told DispatchLIVE.

“I heard the first one and I thought it was not serious. But I had to run to hide behind the wall when I heard a second, a third, and a fourth as other people ran from the yard screaming. We were all terrified. “

He said he saw a man with a gun inside the prosecution office before hearing the shots.

When DispatchLIVE arrived at the scene, there were two ambulances and several Protek Security vehicles.

DispatchLIVE understands that the suspect is an employee of Protek Security. He was immediately arrested and detained at the station.

The community service center at the Madeira police station remains closed and people are asked to go to other police stations. The Madeira Police Station is located in Mthatha CBD.
