Water problems for more bay residents

More Nelson Mandela Bay residents can prepare for the disturbed water supply through Sunday afternoon, infrastructure and engineering chief Mongameli Bobani said Sunday.

He said the water supply to the Nooitgedagt treatment plants had suffered another setback, with a failure in Nooitgedagt’s main power supply.

It was not related to the shedding of charges.

“It will take about five hours to make the repairs,” he said.

“Based on the above and yesterday’s experiences, high areas will experience low pressure in the mid-afternoon.

“Once the electricity is back on, it will take another five to six hours to restart the entire system at the water treatment plants and pumping stations.”

An advisory issued earlier Sunday said the problem would affect the Motherwell and Stanford Road pumps.

“Now there is no water entering the Chelsea Reservoir.”

Most of the city, from the western suburbs to the northern areas, have suffered water outages over the weekend.

Some areas were affected since Wednesday night.

Bobani said areas like Motherwell would now also be affected.
