Health and beauty retailer Clicks says it has implemented contingency plans to ensure the safety of staff and customers.
This comes after the EFF threatened to close the Clicks store across the country on Monday.
In a statement on Sunday, the EFF said it had written to Clicks with “direct demands to remedy his racist act” and given him 24 hours to respond. The EFF said it was not satisfied with the company’s response, calling it patronizing and unapologetic.
The clicks were criticized on Friday for a campaign ad on its website where it posted an image of African hair, which was labeled dry and damaged, while an example of white hair is described as fine and flat.
The company, following outrage on social media, withdrew the ad and apologized.
The EFF said the company needed to close for five days because, it claimed, the apology it issued was not genuine.
In response, Clicks said in a statement to TimesLIVE that they could not close their stores because they provide “a much-needed health care service for South Africans.”
“Contingency plans have been implemented to ensure the safety of both clients and staff,” the company said. “Clicks has taken full responsibility and unreserved apology for the announcement posted on its website and has taken immediate action to address all concerns.”
