EFF prepares to mobilize members to forcibly close all Clicks stores – the Citizen

After their list of demands was ignored, the Economic Freedom Fighters have threatened to forcibly close all Clicks stores across the country if the store does not announce that it will voluntarily close.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, “if Clicks does not close, our members in all branches will close the 880 Clicks points of sale throughout the country from Monday, September 7, 2020 to Friday, September 11, 2020.”

This comes just two days after the party published a list of demands that they said must be met by Clicks to avoid a national protest by party members.

Last week, the retailer found itself in trouble after ads posted on its website, labeling black hair “curly and dull” and white hair as “normal.”

The brand was criticized for running the “racist” ad and has since apologized for the mistake.

Among the EFF’s requirements was a directive that Clicks must immediately terminate the contracted company that commissioned the advertisement.

The other demands of the EFF are as follows:

  • We require that Clicks publicly list the names of all Clicks directors and employees who participated in the commissioning of said advertisement.
  • That all the people who were involved in the commissioning of the advertisement in question, whether they are Clicks employees or independent contractors, be fired with immediate effect.
  • Publicly list the name of the service providers or contractors who commissioned the advertisement in question. Publicly list the names of all the directors of the company that commissioned the ad.
  • That the contracted company that commissioned the advertisement must terminate its contract with immediate effect.
  • We require that the above be executed within the next 24 hours and the confirmation be put in writing.

Their demands were answered in a way that the party has described as “condescending”, for which they have announced their intention to comply with their threats.

“The Economic Freedom Fighters calls for the closure of all Clicks stores in South Africa in light of their perverse and unrepentant racism. Clicks participated in the public dehumanization of blacks through an advertisement that presented black women’s hair as “damaged compared to white hair that is described as normal, fine and flat.

“The implications of this are that black identity exists as inferior to white people’s identity. It is a statement that white standards of beauty should be aspired and that black features represent damage, deterioration and abnormality. This characterization is the cornerstone of anti-black racism and the EFF will not tolerate it, ”the statement reads in part.

A few hours after Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s tweet, EFF leader Julius Malema took to Twitter to tell “EFF ground forces” to “attack.”

The party has been criticized for endangering the jobs of Clicks employees.
