Mourners pay tribute to Nathaniel Julies

JOHANNESBURG – Nathaniel Julies rested Saturday afternoon in Eldorado Park.

The 16-year-old was shot and killed last week, allegedly by police.

Dozens of mourners attended his funeral.

Nathaniel’s mother, Bridget Harris, said she will always remember her son for his overwhelming love.

Harris said she has forgiven the men who took her son’s life.

A teacher also paid tribute to Nathaniel, saying that he was a happy boy who loved to dance.

Wearing Nathaniel’s face T-shirts, angry mourners demanded justice.

“We knew Nathaniel would have to happen at some point, but not like that,” said his uncle Cyril Brown.

“Today is about Nathaniel Julies, justice will come after that,” he said.

The teen’s death sparked outrage both in Eldorado Park and across the country, renewing calls for tougher action against police brutality.

Three police officers have been charged in connection with the boy’s death and will make their second appearance in Protea magistrates court on Thursday.
