Harvey Elliott scored in Liverpool’s 7-2 pre-season friendly win over Blackpool on Saturday, and Joel Matip predicted there will be a lot more where that came from.

Matip was also on the scoreboard when Jurgen Klopp’s side rallied from a 2-0 defeat to win their final warm-up before starting their Premier League title defense against Leeds United next weekend.

The defender headed home from a corner shortly before half-time to begin Liverpool’s comeback as they returned from injury, before a flurry of four goals in 20 minutes in the second half.

Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Elliott, Takumi Minamino all scored, and Divock Origi and Sepp van den Berg added more goals.

And Matip praised the performances of Elliott, 17, and January’s signature Minamino after the game.

“Harvey is so young and such a talented player,” the Liverpool Echo dating center-back said. “I think there will be a lot of goals to come, but it was a good start.

“Everyone is happy for him (Takumi) because he is working hard all the time and now he is successful in games with some goals. I hope it continues like this. “

On his return from injury, Matip said: “It was nice to be back on the field and directly back in the stadium. I am looking forward to the season.”

Klopp gave several Liverpool youths a chance to impress, with Billy Koumetio and Ki-Jana Hoever starting alongside Matip on defense, while Curtis Jones and Van den Berg came off the bench.

And Matip said Liverpool’s comeback gave young players a valuable lesson in how to respond after falling behind in a game.

“You can learn from every game and every situation, even if you don’t have the perfect start,” he said. “You can always come back.

“Of course they (Blackpool) started quite well and caused us some problems, but that’s the thing about the preseason. You have to learn about the things of the game.

“Especially in the second half, we did much better.

“It was a special preseason, but it was [the same] for each team. We have to deal with that and do the best we can. “
