- A private ceremony was held for the family of the slain Nathaniel Julies, 16, on Saturday morning.
- His uncle, Cyril Brown, said he was praying for the law to fall hard on those who killed his nephew.
- Three policemen have been charged with the murder of the teenager.
Seeing his nephew Nathaniel Julies lying in his coffin is painful, the teen’s uncle, Cyril Brown, said Saturday.
“I never imagined that one day I would see him inside a coffin. When I looked at his body [I thought of] the cheerful and energetic young man who ran [in] the streets, eating his favorite snack: cookies, ”said Brown.
If this was a normal Saturday, Julies would have sat across from Brown for her biweekly haircut.
Instead, they gathered for his funeral.
Julies was shot dead near his home in Eldorado Park on Aug. 26.
Three officers have been charged in connection with the boy’s untimely death.
Simon “Scorpion” Ndyalvane, 46, and Caylene Whiteboy, 26, face charges of homicide, defeating the ends of justice, firing a firearm in a public space and possession of prohibited ammunition.
Detective Sergeant Foster Netshiongolo, 37, faces charges of murder as an accessory after the fact, illicit possession of ammunition and defeat of the aims of justice.
Brown, who said his nephew looked like “a real gentleman” at his funeral, described how he would create different styles for Julies when they meet every other weekend.
“I am happy that I gave him his last haircut like his uncle,” he said.
“It hurts me to know that I will never cut your hair again. It’s going to be hard to forget the memories we shared together. ”
The family first held a private ceremony before moving to a place where the public was allowed.
Brown thanked the media, social media, and everyone who was with them during their painful and difficult trial.
Brown said:
I wish their killers could see what they have done. If anyone can show you the emotions and breakdown that they have caused our family, how his mother is breaking up right now knowing that she will never see her son again. [He] he was killed by people destined to protect him.
“We had confidence in you as a police officer and yet you went and killed someone who had Down syndrome, who was not a threat to you, and who was unarmed. Hehe only had a package of cookies in his hands when he was killed.
“You have caused pain and suffering. We love it. He was loved by everyone in the community. “
Brown said that when his nephew walked into a room, “the whole environment would change.”
“You have taken something precious from us. I pray that the law will punish you for your actions. “
