The brand was criticized for running the “racist” ad and has since apologized for the mistake.
“We sincerely apologize for offending and defrauding our customers. We act quickly and immediately remove offensive images provided by a vendor as part of their marketing campaign. As a brand, we recognize that we have a responsibility to use whatever influence we have to remove implicit and explicit biases from society, the workplace, and our advertising.
“We recognize that we have a role to play in how we represent our diverse customer base in our advertising and that of vendors, and we sincerely apologize for failing you. We know we have to do better and we are committed to ensuring that our content reflects the diverse voices and experiences of our customers, ”said Rachel Wrigglesworth, Clicks Commercial Director.

But South Africans are not taking it lightly and now the EFF has entered the conversation with a list of demands that must be met within the next 24 hours.
In a statement, General Secretary Marshall Dlamini said the party called the brand’s conduct “disturbing” and reminded South Africans “of our painful past history that focused on racism that subjected blacks to inhumane conditions and treatment. “.
Among the demands, Clicks must immediately cancel the contracted company that commissioned the ad.
These are the demands of the EFF:
- We require that Clicks publicly list the names of all Clicks directors and employees who participated in the commissioning of said advertisement.
- That all the people who were involved in the commissioning of the advertisement in question, whether they are Clicks employees or independent contractors, be fired with immediate effect.
- Publicly list the name of the service providers or contractors who commissioned the advertisement in question. Publicly list the names of all the directors of the company that commissioned the ad.
- That the contracted company that commissioned the advertisement must terminate its contract with immediate effect.
- We require that the above be executed within the next 24 hours and the confirmation be put in writing.
“If you do not meet our previous demands, we will close all Clicks stores in South Africa without notice. We urge you to take this letter seriously, as it is our last and last communication with your organization until our demands are met, ”the party said.
Social media users have been expressing their opinion on the issue using the hashtag #clicksmustfall.
