Two men received life sentences for killing a police officer.

Two men from Mpumalanga, who were found guilty of the murder of a police officer, her husband and her own accomplice, have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Freeman Thulani Maisame, 33, and Martin Mohlala, 27, were convicted of a series of crimes including three counts of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances, pointing a firearm and firing a firearm. in a public area.
According to the National Prosecutor’s Office (NPA), the crime wave was committed in the small town of Agincourt between November 30, 2018 and December 1, 2019 and ended with the murder of police officer Thembisile Fortune Ndlovu, her husband Jabulani Harry Khoza and an accomplice. Mandla Sambo.
Before the triple murder, Maisame and Mohlala robbed the victims preparing for a wedding near Thulani Elementary School.

“They pointed at the victims with a firearm and demanded their cell phones, vehicle keys, wallets, belts and shoes. In addition, they stole a motor vehicle, a silver VW Jetta, with which they fled the scene,” said Monica Nyuswa , spokesperson for the NPA.
Vehicle
Using the same stolen vehicle, the couple later set up a tavern, firing shots at the ceiling while ordering customers to lie on the ground. They stole money, airtime vouchers and cigarettes.
They then abandoned the stolen vehicle outside the tavern and escaped on foot.
A year later, with Sambo as the third accomplice, Maisame and Mohala broke into Ndlovu and Khoza’s home.
“They demanded the keys to a vehicle that was parked in the yard,” Nyuswa.

“There was a shootout between Ndlovu, Khoza and the three suspects. As a result, Ndlovu and one of the attackers, Sambo, were killed at the scene.
“The husband was rushed to the hospital, but then succumbed to his injuries.”
Police arrested Maisame and Mohala a few days later.
Nyuswa said both defendants denied being involved in the triple murder, saying they were not at the crime scene and that they had been drinking in a tavern all night.
Sentence
During the aggravating sentencing allegations, the State detailed how Ndlovu and Khoza were attacked in their bedroom and that shots were fired in front of their six-year-old daughter.
“What made the case worse was that one of those killed in the matter was a police officer,” the state said according to Nyuswa.
The Mpumalanga High Court sentenced Maisame and Mohala to:
– 15 years in prison for each offense of aggravated robbery
– 5 years in prison for each firearm discharge charge
– 5 years in prison each for possession of a firearm without a license
– 5 years in prison each for possession of ammunition
– Life in prison for each murder charge.
Sentences will run at the same time as life imprisonment.
The acting director of the Public Ministry, Matric Luphondo, praised the “excellent work” of the prosecution and investigation teams.
