JOHANNESBURG – Eskom has suspended the managers of the Kendal and Tutuka power plants pending disciplinary proceedings.
This follows the implementation of load shedding phase four this week.
Eskom says manager failures are partly to blame for recent power outages and emphasizes that weak management will no longer be tolerated.
Further interventions are being carried out at the Kriel and Duvha power plants.
According to a statement, there have been serious problems of uncaring behavior on the part of some in management.
“Commitments have been made with other power plant managers to ensure that the previous culture of weak consequence management is no longer the norm and will no longer be tolerated at Eskom,” the power company said in a statement.
“The Executive, meanwhile, has deployed three senior Generation managers to the sites in question (Duvha, Kriel, Tutuka and Kendal power plants) to provide in-person leadership and oversight.”

The board of directors and the executive management of the energy company met with the Minister of Public Companies, Pravin Gordhan, to question the causes of the load shedding and the measures taken to repair the breakdowns.
Eskom is implementing phase 3 of load reduction until 10pm on Friday.
