Limpopo schoolgirl, 17, found in pool of blood, stabbed multiple times

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Mahwelereng, on the outskirts of Mokopane in Limpopo, police said Thursday.

The person was arrested on Wednesday night, two hours after the incident, said provincial police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The police received a report on the incident and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds, ”Mojapelo said.

The victim was a 12th grade student at Ebenezer High School in Zone 2, Mahwelereng.

The teenager is expected to appear soon in Mokerong Magistrates Court on charges of murder.

The motive for the murder is unknown.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Nneke Ledwaba congratulated officers on the arrest.

Ledwaba also urged community members to help officers locate a suspect who allegedly set fire to a house in the village of Shivulani, on the outskirts of Giyani.

The incident occurred on Monday around 11:40 p.m. A 38-year-old woman and her children, ages 9, 13 and 20, were asleep at the time.

“The woman was awakened by steps [and] When he went to investigate, he was surprised to see a man standing in the doorway, pouring a liquid substance over the house and then setting it on fire. The house immediately caught fire, “Mojapelo said.

“The victims somehow managed to jump out of the burning house and all were taken to hospital with burn injuries. The motive for the incident is unknown at this time, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.”
