- Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is happy with the progress his team has made this season.
- He says his Brazilian pupils shouldn’t be ungrateful after winning the Telkom Knockout and at the same time reaching the final of the Nedbank Cup.
- Mosimane adds that Saturday’s last round of Absa Premiership matches cannot be trusted, but he believes anything can happen.
Sundowns Mamelodi coach Pitso mosimane was reluctant to feel optimistic before the final round on Saturday Premiership Absa 2019/20 games.
Brazilians are tied on points with record leaders Kaizer bosses [56 points] with the only goal difference that separates the two sides [Chiefs
have +21 difference with Sundowns on +18].
At one point in the season, the Chiefs held a 13-point lead over the Sundowns due to their participation in the CAF Champions League.
Mosimane believes that his team has always given their best in all competitions. The Sundowns already have a piece of silver, the Telkom Knockout, after notching a 2-1 win against Maritzburg United in December.
The Brazilians are also in the running for the Nedbank Cup next weekend against Bloemfontein Celtic.
“We have given them competition all these years. The last time we won the league, we gave them competition. In the end we won it, and it was never easy,” Mosimane said.
“Last year we won the last game to win the league and we will give Kaizer Chiefs a good run. We closed a 13-point gap and I’m proud of that.
“We had games in hand while we were in camp in Morocco and playing Al Ahly. We are competing with a team that didn’t even play in the top eight, a rested team that played every weekend (Sunday to Sunday) Where we are, to fight for Telkom Knockout, the Nedbank Cup and to fight for the league, you can’t be so ungrateful.
“With the injuries and the heavy program, we have done very well. Inside the bubble, it is us and Wits who can talk about heavy legs and we have injuries to key players like Mosa Lebusa, Andile Jali and Denis Onyango. But we are not complaining ., and we will never give them the title on a platter. We will accept it. “
The Sundowns face relegation threatened by the Black Leopards while Amakhosi faces Baroka FC. All matches will start at 15:30.
From his experience fighting for league titles, Mosimane doesn’t trust teams to do him any favors.
“In soccer you can never say never. Last year when we played Free State Stars, I never saw them let go, but yeah,” said the former Bafana Bafana coach.
“Do you know what happened to our last game when we were fighting for the league with the Pirates? Polokwane City were 4-0 down after 20 minutes. We know these things in football, and we have to do it for ourselves and never ask for a favor.
“I do not trust the last matches, I have enough experience. Even if we have already decided the title,” I put the full line-up.
“I was a bit disappointed in Polokwane City to be honest with the lineup they put up against the Pirates last year and that’s my opinion.”
