Manchester United are reported to have made a “very interesting offer” for Real Madrid side Sergio Reguilón ahead of the new season.
United have addressed depth issues in midfield quality by signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax this week, and he’s on the market for other new players ahead of the start of the Premier League on September 19. Jadon Sancho has established himself as his primary target. throughout the summer, although the deal has recently stalled.
However, his defense has been cause for concern. United is publicly known to be chasing Sancho and a central defender, although other positions in the team will require strengthening in future windows.
The center forward will need to be addressed at some point in the near future as Odion Ighalo’s loan contract expires in January, while the left-back position has caused some concern among the club’s fan base in recent months. This is where Reguilón comes in.
The 23-year-old Spaniard, who could make his international debut against Germany on Thursday night, impressed on loan at Sevilla last season and played his role in eliminating United from the Europa League in the semi-final stage last month. He provided the assist for former Liverpool striker Suso to score Sevilla’s first goal in their 2-1 victory.
However, his loan contract in Seville has expired and he has returned to parent club Real, which is known to be looking to cut their squad and raise money from player sales to reinvest next summer. They have a number of quality options on the left side, with the experienced Marcelo and the French Ferland Mendy in contention to fight for the position.
The Spanish newspaper AS reports that Real is open to selling Reguilón for between 25 and 30 million euros, although it states that they would seek to include a buyback option in the agreement at that price.
The report claims that United has already come up with an “interesting offer,” and MEN confirm that it has been tracked down by United’s recruiting department. 90min he has learned that the left back is not a prime option for immediate strengthening, although the situation could change as there are multiple players United wants to sell.
Central and full-back Marcos Rojo has been told he can leave the club, although finding a permanent destination for him is a challenge, while Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot, a right-back capable of playing on the left, has barely appeared with Ole Gunnar. Solskjaer in recent months. United are expected to consider offers for both players should they arrive.
Other players in the squad; The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Sergio Romero are also available for sale at the right price, and any fees from their exits could be used to invest in other positions.
The left-back looks particularly light on options at the moment due to Luke Shaw’s injury issues and Brandon Williams’ downfall, though most believe the latter would be more comfortable playing on the opposite side given that he’s upright.
Sevilla is the other team at the head of the Reguilón queue according to the report, although it can only offer another loan to Real, which wants to raise money. It gives United the advantage.
Juventus, Napoli and Tottenham have also been credited with interest in the player.
