Real Madrid is reportedly prepared to allow Sergio Reguilón to join Manchester United for a fee of between € 25 million and € 30 million, but only if a guaranteed buyback clause is inserted into the deal.
United finally got their summer transfer window in place on Wednesday after confirming the arrival of Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £ 40.1 million with more likely to come.
Jadon Sancho remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main target as he looks to further improve his attacking options to turn his team into Premier League title contenders.
However, MEN Sport understands that United are also monitoring Spanish defender Reguilón due to the uncertainty in the left-back position.
United opted not to move in with a new left back last year due to the emergence of Brandon Williams, but the teen struggled late in the season when he replaced the injured Luke Shaw.
Reguilon spent the year on loan at Sevilla, where he played a vital role in the club’s triumphant Europa League campaign, eliminating United in the process.
Despite the 23-year-old’s talent, he is behind Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in Real Madrid’s pecking order and according to AS, Zinedine Zidane is happy to see him leave the club again this summer.
However, Reguilon and the club itself are reported to eventually want the player to succeed at the Bernabéu, so they would want a buyback clause inserted into the deal if he is sold. Similar to the sales of Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Morata in the past.
The report adds that Juventus, Tottenham, Napoli and Sevilla are interested in Reguilon, but that United is the favorite as they could spend more than the other clubs on a transfer.
Meanwhile, Roma have submitted a € 12 million offer for United defender Chris Smalling, according to reports.
The center-back was on loan last season in the Italian capital and impressed so much that Roma are eager to bring him back permanently.
However, so far it appears that Roma have not been able to match United’s valuation for Smalling but, according to Goal, they have restarted negotiations and hope a compromise can be reached.
