The Hawks arrested a man who allegedly stole money from an accident victim.
A former Johannesburg-based lawyer appeared in Palmridge Magistrates Court on Monday on fraud charges amounting to R662,000.
The Hawks Business Crime Investigation team arrested Lwandle Fanuel Mkhonto, 48, following allegations that he misappropriated the money from the Highway Accident Fund (RAF) that was to be paid to his client.
He allegedly used the funds for personal gain.

The victim was a cyclist who was hit by a truck in March 1998 and now lives with a disability.
Apparently more than 1.2 million rand was paid into Mkhonto’s trust account following RAF approval and in August 2008 the victim was only paid a total of 200,000 rand and suffered a loss of more than 600,000 rand.
The case against Mkhonto, who has since been removed from the list of lawyers, was postponed until October 6. He was released on bail of 5,000 rand.
