Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 4 load shedding at 3:00 p.m. on September 2, 2020.
Stage 4 load shedding will continue until 10:00 p.m. tonight, the power company said.
“Eskom regrets to announce that load shedding will move from Stage 2 to Stage 4 at 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM tonight, due to exceptionally high demand,” Eskom said in a cheep.
“Due to continued severe generation supply constraints caused by multiple unit failures, as well as additional demand caused by cold weather, Eskom will scale the load reduction level to Sage 4 from 3pm until 10:00 PM, ”Eskom said.
The power company said load shedding will persist throughout the weekend as Eskom teams are working to bring as many of these generating units back into service as possible.
“This load shedding is necessary to conserve and replenish emergency reserves and at the same time maintain the stability of the electrical system,” he said.
This follows after Eskom Announced that would implement the load shedding of stage 2 from 12:00 to 22:00 on Tuesday, September 1.
The power company said yesterday that continuous blackouts had to be implemented due to the failure of 10 generating units at seven different power plants in the last two days.
“Eskom regrets to inform the public that due to a severely restricted generation system as a result of multiple unit failures, it has become necessary to implement stage 2 load shedding from 12:00 to 22:00 today,” Eskom said in a statement.
“Ten generation units from seven plants suffered breakdowns in the last 48 hours.”
As of last night, Eskom’s unplanned breakdowns stood at 11,665MW of capacity, and planned maintenance resulted in a further unavailability of 4,558MW of generation capacity.
“As the old generation infrastructure is unreliable and volatile, this restricted power system is expected to persist for the rest of the week.”
Eskom urged South Africans to reduce their electricity use to help the power company reduce the possibility of loss of charge.
