Durban: Traffic on the N3, eastbound and westbound, in the vicinity of the EB Cloete Interchange has stopped this morning.
The reason? A group of Durban artists took to the road to protest the closure and how it has affected their livelihoods.
The group set up a stage on the national highway and organized a mini concert.
They say that the blocking regulations and the limitation of people in the places is affecting their pockets.
Armed with banners, the group demands that President Cyril Ramaphosa take it seriously.
The lockdown was implemented in South Africa earlier this year and several industries have suffered significant losses.
Despite the markdowns over the months, artists say they have yet to cut back because regulations don’t allow for larger gatherings.
In accordance with level 2 regulations, nightclubs remain closed while pubs and bars are open to the public, under restricted guidelines.
Last month, celebrities and local businesses participated in the “Light SA Red”.
Wednesday’s campaign called on the entire South African technical production and live events industry to come together to make their voices heard.
This movement aimed to support thousands of musicians, artists, sound engineers, dancers, deejays, actors, theater practitioners, photographers, who for more than five months have not been able to work since the ban on all events, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
