JOHANNESBURG – Eskom says the planned power outages will continue for another day, after it implemented the stage 2 load shedding on Tuesday.
In a statement, the power company said the load outage will continue from 8 am to 10 pm on Wednesday.

Eskom said this was due to continuous stress in its generating system, after experiencing multiple breakdowns.
He said 10 generating units at seven power plants suffered breakdowns.
“With the obsolete and unreliable generation infrastructure, along with a series of risks in the units in operation, there is a high possibility that additional stages of load shedding will be implemented in the short term,” the statement read.

At the same time, Eskom’s head of generation Rhulani Mathebula said the utility needed to get back on the drawing board to repair faulty generator units at the company’s power plants.
The utility company has struggled over the years to fix its aging infrastructure with frequent power outages.
Mathebula said that the strategy they have been using to maintain their plants no longer works, but that they have the skills to change the situation.
“You will know that when we design this type of plant, we also come up with a better way to manage it due to the operating regime in which we will operate the plant. When things like this happen, it tells us to go back to the drawing board and see what is really happening. “
