Nick Bester’s son shares details of mountain attack

JOHANNESBURG – Comrade champion Nick Bester is recovering in hospital after being attacked while training outside Pretoria.

His condition has improved enough that he is taken out of intensive care.

Bester’s son Shaun spoke to eNCA about his father’s condition and explained what happened Sunday during the attack.

“He’s been mugged and robbed before, where his bike was taken 10 years ago, but not this time. He had his gun with him but he didn’t see anyone coming around the back,” Bester said.

“There were three guys, they hit him with stones. They tied him up, took his gun from him. They hit him in the eye, which actually broke the bone above his eye and cheekbone.

“They started kicking him, which caused him to break three of his ribs. Then they dragged him further into the bushes, at the top of the mountain.

“They forced him to give them the PINs for the bank cards that he had in his cell phone pocket. They tied him up, gave them the PINs and left him bleeding and battered.”

Bester was training for the Battle of the Sports event at the time.
