Ibrahimovic, who scored 10 goals in 18 Serie A games, had the option to extend his contract.

According to Sky Sports, the 38-year-old is close to agreeing to one more year in Milan and his salary is expected to rise by £ 40,000 per week.

Speaking about his return to Italy on Saturday night, Ibrahimovic said: “Finally everything is in place and I can finally return to where I feel at home.”

He later told the Milan website: “As I’ve always said, I’m not here to be a pet.

“I’m here to bring results and help the team, the coach and the team to get back to where Milan should be.

“We had a great last six months but we haven’t won anything.

“This year I have the opportunity to be here from the beginning, so we have to continue as we were, working hard and sacrificing ourselves to reach our goals.”

Ibrahimovic helped Milan to a sixth place and a place in the Europa League this season.

And upon his return to the San Siro it seems that he confirmed that his number will change from 21 to 11.

During his first season in Milan, between 2010-2012, he wore jersey number 11.

And a video uploaded to Instagram reveals the striker wearing a new jersey with the same number.

In his first term at Manchester United, Ibrahimovic wore number 9.

But then it changed to No. 10 the following season after Wayne Rooney left.
